The world’s climate is acutely shifting the earth’s foundations. In Australia alone, our nation has experienced drought, fires and floods which has resulted in widespread erosion, the loss of homes and livelihoods.
Australian industrial heavy hitter, Anchoring Rope & Rigging’s (AR&R’s) HULK Earth Anchors offers stability with over 35 years of experience in the installation and manufacturing of percussion anchoring technology.
A Heritage Dating Back To 1918
It all began in South Africa where Rob Stockl the CEO of Anchoring Rope & Rigging, was born. He grew up with a technical pedigree in the field of Steel Wire Ropes, Wire rope fittings and Rigging Services. This is hardly surprising since his family’s Ropery business dates back to 1918.
Since the 1980s, Mr Stockl has been actively involved in the manufacture of percussion earth anchors and strata control products, which are associated with wire rope industries.
On moving to Sydney, Australia, Rob Stockl founded AR&R 14 years ago. He then launched HULK Percussion Anchors, 10 years ago, after becoming frustrated by the lack of locally made percussion anchors. He also saw that there was very little technical support in the field of percussion anchoring, which he felt was not doing the technology justice.
The Very Best Is Made With The Best
With his knowledge of percussion anchoring, Mr Stockl set about creating a fit for purpose anchor that was better on all levels than anything that had previously been created. Built with the very best raw materials that Australia has to offer, along with modern engineering, a supportive team and with extraordinary suppliers, the HULK earth anchor was born to be Simpler, Sleeker, Tougher, Faster, Stronger & 100% Driven.
Most importantly HULK Earth Anchors are backed 100% locally by an Australian ISO listed manufacturer and the company is not an importer or distributor. AR&R is now a world leader in percussion earth anchoring and size for size, the HULK Each Anchor is 60% stronger than other drive anchors, allowing higher holding capacities in suitable ground conditions.
HULK Earth Anchors are built to the following Australian standards: AS1831, AS4680, AS1666, and AS2076. It’s the unique HULK Hard Armour coating, which gives the anchors, three times the corrosive resistance over competing products’ traditional hot dip galvanising methods.
HULK Hard Armour incorporates a case around the anchor, which is extremely hard, offering further protection from scratches and damage through the anchor installation process.
Attention To Detail Makes HULK Earth drive Anchors Unbeatable
The chisel shaped nose of the anchor, offers superior strength and is the ideal proportion for anchor installations, while the hex body of the anchor, allows for a smaller profile while driving the anchor into the ground. This facilitates a smoother and more rapid installation process than other earth anchors. Meanwhile the angled surfaces of the HULK, allow for improved bearing capacity, while larger frustum cones enhance general holding performance.
Other features include a widened scoop on the tail of the anchor, which rotates the anchor into a load bearing position more reliably and over shorter distances. This allows for reduced anchor driving depths and quicker installation and proof testing times.
Become Site Ready At HULK Park
As a full-service company, we design the goods, manufacture the goods, supply the goods and we also have an installation division,” explains Mr Stockl. “However, we can’t install everything we sell, so we’re very happy to show others how to install HULK. We operate out of HULK Park in Somersby, which is around 77 kilometres from Sydney,” he says.
“It’s a fantastic situation and because it’s out in the country, clients come here with their drilling rigs and their excavators and we train them and get them site ready before they start work on their project, “he says, "Even The Duckbill Platypus Enjoy HULK Park"
The experience of becoming site ready at HULK Park is all encompassing.
“Clients can spend all day with us if they like and we’re here to answer any questions or use our expertise to help solve problems, “ says Mr Stockl, who relishes the opportunity of putting HULK through its paces, One of the other attractions at Somersby Park is a family of platypus, that are also ready to dig in. This national Australian creature clearly understands the benefits of getting with the strength of an all Australian brand.
“We have a vision of a green planet, utilising green products,” says Rob Stockl. “It’s a marvellous place for HULK to work its magic.”
Ensuring The Safety of A Retirement Community
AR&R take on a variety of crucial work including a project at Anglicare’s Goodwin Village, which houses retirees in the Sydney suburb of Woollahra. Working with the head contractor, Built Pty Ltd, Anchoring Rope & Rigging, were brought in for slope stabilisation at Goodwin Village.
According to Rob Stockl, the brief was to safely stablise two 13 metre high soil embankments with 40 degree slopes measuring 45m and 30m in length on the underside of two apartment blocks in the village.
Mr Stockl explains that it was very sensitive work with a limited amount of head space available. A total of 206 Hulk HG 100 soil anchors with CTB thread bar tendons were installed at 1.5m centres to an effective depth of 5m.
“The HULK percussion anchor system was chosen for this project, as it was the only way to offer a comprehensive solution to the challenges at hand,” he points out.
The end result is that no matter the ferocity of the weather systems, the residents of Goodwin Village, will remain safe and protected.
Don’t Take Our Word For It
The roll call of some of `Anchoring Rope & Rigging’s well known clients includes UGL; Powerlink; Coates Hire; Lend Lease; John Holland; Fortesque Metals and BMD and the company also operates on many overseas projects. This is what has made Australia a world leader in Percussion Earth Anchors.
No project is too big or small for AR&R to take on but it’s assured of being a success when you contact AR+R on 1300 692 626 or email
